Indian citizens wishing to travel to Germany must obtain a visa prior to their departure. The type of visa required depends on the purpose of the visit. The most common type of visa issued for travel to Germany from India is a Schengen Visa. This visa allows entry and stay in Germany for up to 90 days.
The following documents are required to apply for a Schengen Visa from India:
• Valid passport and copies of previous visas
• Two recent passport-size photographs
• Cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip
• Proof of accommodation in Germany
• Proof of civil status (marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, death certificate of spouse, ration card if applicable)
• Proof of financial means for the duration of the stay
• Flight reservation • Travel health insurance
• Application form, duly filled and signed
In addition to the above documents, additional documents may be required depending on the purpose of travel. For example, if you are travelling to Germany for business, you will need to provide an invitation letter from the German company, proof of professional qualifications, etc. You can apply for a Schengen Visa at the German Embassy or Consulate in India.
